Tresemme Shampoo – Uses, Side Effects, and Complete Info

No matter how hectic our daily schedules may be, we must make time for a fantastic hair care routine. Needless to say, shampooing tops my priority haircare list.

There was a period in my life when I used Tresemme shampoos on a regular basis because they accomplished what they were supposed to do: clean my hair and get rid of the buildup of filth and grime that had collected over time.

In case you haven’t heard of it, Tresemme is a well-known American hair care company known for its reasonably priced, high-end packaging.

Tresemme is a complete hair care line, offering everything from shampoos and conditioners to hairsprays, mousses, and more.

However, the controversial claim that some of its hair care products have caused hair loss in some consumers has put the storied company in the limelight.

Does Tresemme Make Your Hair Fall Out

About Tresemme Shampoos

Founded in the 1940s, Tresemme is a well-known American hair care and cosmetics brand that was acquired by Unilever in 2010.

Edna L. Emmé, a successful businesswoman who specialised in hair care and cosmetology, inspired the name of the company.

She had a clear vision of what women desired, and she set out to make that vision a reality by making this brand affordable for all.

Although the brand’s original distribution strategy involved just beauty salons, later expansion into grocery stores and drugstores made it more accessible to middle- and lower-income women.

Hot to use Tresemme Shampoo

TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Conditioner should be used from the mid-lengths to the ends after shampooing. Turn it on and let it sit for two or three minutes so the magic can happen. Rinse your hair well with lukewarm water. When used with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo, you will see the best effects.

Is Tresemme Brand Sulfate Free?

In the case of Tresemme, the offending ingredient is sodium lauryl sulphate, a cleanser designed to promote gathering of the shampoo. Unfortunately, it can be harsh and cause harmful scalp irritation and strip moisture and hair colour from the hair, which is why so many brands get in trouble for using it.

Although Tresemme does offer certain sulfate-free options, this component can be found in the vast majority of their shampoos.

Tresemme conditioners, like many others, contain sulphates that may be harmful to your hair in the long run. Ethanol, like sulphate, dries out the scalp, and it is found in their hair sprays and hair mousse.

So, before buying any Tresemme shampoos, you should always double-check the ingredients list.

What Is The Tresemme Hair Loss Lawsuit?

In 2020, a fatal lawsuit threatened the Tresemme brand when an online article went viral. One woman’s allegations that Tresemme Keratin soft shampoo caused her hair loss led to a class action lawsuit accusing Unilever of knowingly marketing and selling goods containing chemicals known to cause hair loss and scalp irritation.
Upon further inspection, it was determined that DMDM hydantoin, a preservative used in many cosmetics to prevent the growth of various germs like bacteria, was the chemical responsible for the reactions of many consumers.

The lawsuit acquired greater traction through social media which led to increased possibilities despite the fact that the defendant corporations stated their products are safe.

Several buyers expressed alarm over their reactions, citing problems like thinning in patches, hair falling out in clumps, dryness, inflammation, and itching of the scalp.

If you don’t want your gorgeous hair damaged, I suggest using a shampoo without DMDM hydantoin or any other harsh chemicals.

Other Controversies About Tresemme Hair Products

Keratin is a natural protein that softly cleanses, deeply nourishes, and repairs the hair, and Unilever advertised its Keratin Smooth range of shampoos to all women looking for beautiful, smooth, manageable hair.

Customers who were encouraged to believe that their hair would become silkier and more salon-like after using the product felt swindled.

Many shoppers were understandably offended by this, and the situation quickly escalated to demonstrations and threats from businesses to pull all products from shelves.

Unilever responded by saying they would pull all of their products from stores worldwide for ten days as an apology, despite the fact that their original intention in running the ad was to simply showcase the breadth of the company’s product offerings.

Also, as indicated earlier, the issue concerning substances found to cause hair damage and hair loss, and potentially being carcinogenic were among of the biggest controversies against Tresemme.

Tresemme Shampoo Side Effects

Tresemme is loaded with potentially damaging substances including silicones, sulphates, and phthalates that can wreak havoc on your hair and scalp.
The brand’s various hair care products all boast of promoting shiny, hydrated, and wholesome locks, but in reality, they do none of those things.

There are a lot of chemicals in these products that can cause your hair to become dry, brittle, and damaged over time.

Will Tresemmé Give Me Cancer?

DMDM hydantoin is a formaldehyde releaser that has been linked to skin damage and cancer.

Formaldehyde, an impurity generated by preservatives, is absorbed into the circulation when DMDM Hydantoin comes into contact with water and can cause serious skin, lung, and eye irritations and even cancer.

Exposure to a carcinogen is possible with long-term use of this substance.

Can Tresemme Cause Hair Loss?

There has been a lawsuit filed against the company and numerous allegations made that their products are responsible for the plaintiff’s hair loss; however, there is no scientific evidence to back up these claims.

You should see a dermatologist if you’re losing your hair so you can get to the bottom of why it’s happening.

The harsh chemicals in some of their products can be too damaging to the hair and cause it to thin out.
